I've had the good fortune to work with many wonderful donors, leaders and volunteers. Out of a sense of purpose, they give their time and money to make things better. Working together to improve our world is a huge part of what gives me hope for our future!

 

Unfortunately, despite these good intentions I've seen that too often, the experience of giving back is frought with disappointment, confusion and missed opportunities.

 

• Aspiring philanthropists misfire when making their first gifts; 

• Loyal donors become dissatisfied or overwhelmed and stop giving;

• Board members commit without clarity, or vanish when their needs aren't met; 

• Nonprofit staff burn out or prioritize poorly when faced with scarce resources;

• Leadership transitions lead to dropped balls, broken systems, lost institutional knowledge & relationships, and reduced revenues.  

 

These preventable experiences turn people away from fundraising, and ultimately keep us from creating more good in the world.  What can we do to avoid the emotional toll that bad giving experiences take?

To improve and grow, I believe we must look at the "macro" and the "micro" of any situation: the big-picture vision and context, as well as the details and deeper meaning of our own individual contributions. 

 

The proven coaching techniques that I practice are the best set of tools I've found for going a little deeper and figuring out what stands in our way.  I am trained and experienced at exploring and gaining insight around individual and group mindsets and behavior.  The coaching process has been expertly designed to reveal our assumptions and old stories, which often have more of an influence on our behavior than we would like to admit.
